Because some children flourish with the whole language method of learning to read while others excel through phonics instruction, Edmark’s Let's Go Read! software series combines the strengths of both approaches. Published by Edmark, these software programs actively engage children in learning and provide a friendly, supportive environment for beginning readers. The activities offer both guided and self-directed learning to help students develop skills at their own pace.

Product Highlights

Let's Go Read! An Island Adventure includes over 175 lessons and 12 progressively leveled interactive books. First, children are introduced to letters and their sounds, and then learn to recognize individual sounds within words. Word-building activities help children combine letters to make words, while word-recognition games improve students' vocabulary.

Let’s Go Read! An Ocean Adventure picks up where An Island Adventure leaves off by introducing children to long vowel sounds, digraphs, and consonant blends. Children also develop spoken language skills using the software's unique auditory components:

  • Speech Recognition: Children can read aloud and the computer listens and responds.
  • Voice Activation: Children can command the computer with their voices in certain activities.
  • Record and Playback: Children can hear themselves read.
