Consortium Partners Survey: Accommodations for Students with Special Needs
We would like to share ideas and comments about classroom practice. Please
take a few minutes to read the following information and then complete the
short survey. In the next issue of the CAST Consortium Newsletter
we will report aggregated results and will provide a forum for discussion.
In a recent survey, teachers were asked to list the curriculum adaptations
they use, the curriculum adaptations provided by publishers that they use,
and the curriculum adaptations that they would use if they had more
resources. Results indicated that teachers reported that they generally
customize or adapt curriculum for between 15% and 30% of their students.
Common adaptations included: hands-on activities; visual representation of
content; simplified instructions; leveled materials; technology; aural
representations of content, summaries or study guides; simplified or
enlarged visual layout; enrichment /extensions; multiple representations of
content; and individualized assessments. We are interested in hearing from
you about curriculum adaptations that you use.
