Customizing for Low Vision
WiggleWorks provides several option settings for students
with low vision. The text in WiggleWorks books, as well as
the mouse cursor, can be magnified. The Talking Buttons
feature enables students to place the cursor over an icon
and hear the button's name read aloud. The Type and Speak
feature enables students to hear the name of each letter as
it is typed. These features can be turned on in various
combinations to increase access for students with low
vision. Optimum color combinations can also be selected to
maximize letter visibility for students with certain types
of color perception difficulties, or with computer monitors
that display color poorly.
Low vision enhancements are available from the Settings menu. A
check mark by the item means the feature is active. Click
once on the item to toggle the check mark on, and again to
toggle it off.
- To enlarge the mouse cursor, choose Bigger
Cursors.
- To enlarge text in books, choose Large Text.
- To have WiggleWorks say the names of buttons as the
mouse is held over them, choose Talking Buttons.
- To have WiggleWorks say the names of letters as the
student types, choose Type and Talk.
To select text, background, and highlight color, choose
Custom Colors from the Settings menu. There are three types
of color customization: "Text," "Background," and
"Highlight." Under each category, click the color you would
like from the swatches below. The sample will change to show
your current selection. Click the OK button to confirm the
new color choices.
QuickTime Example
This QuickTime movie clip shows the Custom Colors dialog box. In
the example, colors are selected in each category: Text,
