Engaging Students in Writing Mechanics (Grades 9 and 10) Lesson 4: Introduction

This UDL lesson is designed to engage students in applying the rules of grammar and usage, particularly noun-verb agreement, in their writing. Students will use the three-step strategy developed in previous lessons to write clear and concise accident reports.

UDL principles are applied by:

  • providing multiple video clips to present accident scenes and using a PowerPoint presentation to develop the format and strategies for writing a clear and concise accident report;
  • offering multiple strategies and options for students to express their understanding;
  • selecting an engaging event and using interesting visuals and real world contexts to engage students' interest.
