LOUISIANA

Interview Notes (April, 2003)

On April 23, 2003, we spoke with Mickey Pounders.

  • “We were one of the first states to require publishers in our contracting to provide materials in diskette or electronic form to be printed in Braille or large print.”
  • Louisiana has an Instructional Resource Center for the Visually Impaired. They take the files from the publishers and produce Braille or large print
  • Pounders was not sure that this is codified state law, but it is State Board Policy which is effective law. It is in the DOE-Pubs contract.
  • Re: alternative formats available in Louisiana, Pounders was only aware of Braille and large print materials.
