As Director of Research at CAST, Bart Pisha brings to his role a unique combination of teaching, scholarship, and research combining effective instructional methods with contemporary electronic media to improve instruction for all students. Currently, Dr. Pisha serves as Co-Principal Investigator for the Office of Special Education Programs-funded “Strategic Learning Editions” project. Earlier, Dr. Pisha served as Project Director for the OSEP-funded “Engaging the Text: Reciprocal Teaching and Questioning Strategies in a Scaffolded Learning Environment” project. He has served as principal investigator on OSEP-funded projects to develop a technology-based instructional approach for students with learning disabilities, the Strategic Reader, and a research project that evaluated the effectiveness of WiggleWorks®, the early literacy software program co-developed by CAST and Scholastic Inc.
Dr. Pisha received his master’s degree from Goddard College and his doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Before joining CAST in 1993, he taught in public elementary schools and at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has held teaching fellowships in reading instruction, research methodology, and statistics at Harvard.
Dr. Pisha, who has a documented learning disability, has participated in an OSEP Expert Strategy Panel focusing on students with disabilities’ progress in the general education curriculum. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Dyslexia Association.
