As Co-Executive Director of CAST, Dr. David Rose specializes in developmental neuropsychology and in the universal design of learning technologies. Dr. Rose helped to found CAST in 1984 to expand opportunities for students with disabilities through the innovative development and application of computer technology.

Dr. Rose has a lifelong commitment to teaching, with a focus on children with special learning needs. He also has many years of clinical experience in disabilities. A lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education since 1985, Dr. Rose has taught the developmental neuropsychology course and has supervised doctoral dissertations in neuropsychology, reading, and language arts. He has played a pivotal role in CAST’s programs to develop accessible curricula, consulting to educational publishers that include Houghton Mifflin, Scholastic, Harcourt Brace, EBSCO, and Silver Burdett & Ginn. He is an author of Scholastic’s highly successful WiggleWorks® and Literacy Place.

Under Dr. Rose's leadership, CAST has played a growing role in national educational policy. Dr. Rose has been an advisor on Universal Design for Learning to the Clinton administration and, since 1995, to the Council of Exceptional Children. He was a member of the Texas Task Force on Electronic Textbook Accessibility. With Dr. Anne Meyer, he has authored two books: the seminal Teaching Every Student in the Digital Age: Universal Design for Learning (ASCD, 2002) and Learning to Read in the Computer Age (Brookline, 1998) in the Jeanne Chall series, and a white paper for the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology. In 2001, Dr. Rose testified before the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate on the educational technology needs of students with disabilities.

Dr. Rose completed his undergraduate work at Harvard University. He received his master's degree from Reed College and his doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
